Domaine Sergent

Domaine Sergent

The Madiran region is in South West France about 40 kilometres north of Pau. It is the land of D’Artagnan and duck in all its various forms. It is also an area that produces wines that can match the excellent local cuisine. The main grape variety is Tannat and the wines it produces are very high in polyphenols which are extremely good for your Health and the cardio-vascular system and taste delicious as well.

Domaine Sergent, situated in Maumasson, was started in 1902 by the Dousseau family’s great grandfather and is currently run by Corinne and Brigitte Dousseau. Brigitte runs the business side and Corinne all aspects of winemaking. She trained in Australia and New Zealand and so brings an interesting New World perspective to her job.

There is a clear sense of dedication and commitment at the winery so it comes at no surprise that the wines are regular medal winners at the Concours General Agricole in Paris and, in fact, they have won medals for 3 out of the last 4 years. No surprise, either, that Decanter Wine magazine awarded the wine 4 stars in August 2007.
(The 5 star wine cost 80 euros!)

Both are certainly wines worth trying and are personal favourites of mine.
