Capilla del Fraile

Capilla del Fraile

It is an interesting fact that good olive oil and good wine can come from the same soil. One such place is Capilla del Fraile set in the countryside near the famous city of Toledo. It is also a classic example of the modern trend in Spain to blend traditional values and modern techniques in winemaking.

The bodega is run by Iñigo Valdenebro, a charming gentleman of the old school, together with his eldest daughter Tamar whose business acumen and efficiency are the hallmark of the modern Spain. This father and daughter combination oversee a vineyard of 13 hectares comprising the two French grape varieties Syrah and Petit Verdot. These two varieties were chosen on the basis of in-depth studies of microclimate, soil and the vineyard’s altitude. Inside the spotless bodega with all the latest equipment are situated three rooms containing 200 French oak barriques from the Allier forest.

The bodega itself currently produces two wines - a 100% Syrah rosé and a red wine that is 80% Syrah and 20% Petit Verdot.

Iñigo’s childhood dream of owning a vineyard and producing wine of the highest quality were amply rewarded recently when the red wine won a prestigious gold medal at the 2008 Brussels International Wine Fair. Without doubt the bodega has a bright future.
